Like Mother Like Daughter

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there! My mom is my number one cheerleader, shopping buddy, confidante and best friend. It’s only fitting that I bought this gorgeous dress with her too! I saw this floral beauty and couldn’t look away. The fabric is extremely soft and flows like a dream. The silhouette is really feminine and flattering thanks to the subtle pleating at the chest. I love dressing up for brunch and this dress was seemingly made for it! Now, when to wear it again? I’m thinking I can double dip and use it as a casual work look by covering up a bit with a jean jacket. I could also wear it again to a nice dinner or party this summer. Sometimes I shy away from buying fancier looking dresses because I worry I won’t have anywhere again. Choose casual dresses with higher quality fabrics to use them for multiple functions!

La vida loca

Happy Cinco de Mayo! My outfit doesn’t exactly reflect the Mexican holiday, however, I had a margarita and guacamole today so I figure I’m good. Today’s outfit is perfect for any summer day at the office. The jean shirt is light and fun, just what the slightly heavy skirt needs. I love this purple color and how well it stands up through my long day at work. I added these great brown heels to give the look a casual, summer vibe. They are so versatile that you can dress them up or down with pretty much anything. The semi cage look of them is super unique and eye-catching. A dusting of gold jewelry keeps the look from being weighed down. I hope you’ve all had a taste of la vida loca today!

White sail

It’s the last day of March, and although it’s been warm in Arizona for a while, white jeans are finally acceptable! I wore this ripped pair mid-month on a sailing adventure for a friend’s bachelorette party. What says “high seas” more than crisp white?! The answer: nothing. I paired the jeans with a blue zippered peplum top to give the outfit a more nautical feel, however, I did have a slight ulterior motive. We were going to be on the boat for a few hours and it was a gorgeous, sunny day, so I wanted to be sure I wouldn’t get any tan lines. Mission accomplished! I returned home with a solid golden glow. We were barefoot on the boat, but beforehand I had worn white sandals to complete the look. I could have gone with nude, but I liked the cohesive look the white sandals achieved. This outfit is perfect for going from day to night. Swap out your sandals for wedges and you’re ready for dinner or a night out!

Burburrrry

Today’s outfit is a bright spot in an otherwise dreary, foggy day in downtown Phoenix. You can’t miss me in these pants, so I always make sure the rest of my outfit is up to par. I added a simple black shirt and a neutral sweater to keep the eye drawn to the pants. They’re both great companions and keep the outfit looking warm. I just got these beautiful Tory Burch sandals and, ever one to put fashion above weather, I ignored the forecast and wore them. Luckily I didn’t get any rain until after work when I was already safe at home. I’ve been saving this Burberry silk scarf for a few weeks now, and I finally decided to put it with this look. A sweet family friend gave it to me and I absolutely love it. The scarf looks great with a sock bun, really spices it up–especially if you wear sock buns a lot. My sock bun secret: I usually wear it when my hair needs to be washed. It always looks fullest and stays together best. I am a big fan of minimal hair washing. Accept it and just make your life easier. Seriously. The whole look has a great modern classic vibe that I’ve really come to adore.

Call off the hounds

I think this might be my last post wearing tights! It’s getting pretty warm outside, and by March I usually retire them to their dresser drawer. This last look is perfect for tights–and definitely needs them for work. This miniskirt is long enough to be business appropriate, but the tights make both my legs and the skirt look longer. Remember, it’s all about tricking the eye–and I’m full of tricks! I didn’t get a ton of wear out of my booties this season either, so this outfits is really a last hurrah all around. I love how the houndstooth skirt pops against the all-black pieces. The whole thing is simple and chic while still being interesting and eye-catching. It’s going to be hard to let go of my black, but expect gorgeous spring colors coming up!
