Day 61: White hot

Whoever said, “Don’t wear white after Labor Day,” was seriously disturbed. I am completely for wearing white after the holiday, especially white jeans. Today was the big UA/ASU game and the tension was high. The actual game was pretty painful and not even entertaining, but I loved my outfit. This thick, oversized shirt kept me warm, while my white pants gave the look a hint of chic. According to Oprah, you can totally wear white after Labor Day, and if she says it–you know it’s true.

Day 60: Shop ’til you drop

If considering Black Friday to be a holiday is wrong, I don’t want to be right. I wait all year to happily join shoppers in crowded malls pawing through racks, bins and drawers. I love it. Scientists say shoppers get a natural high from the dopamine levels that rise when you get a good deal or buy something you really like. Today may mean an overdose. However, Black Friday isn’t the climax it used to be thanks to stores opening on Thanksgiving. Talk about cracking an egg before it’s hatched. I don’t need a deal so bad that I’ll wait in lines for days, or even overnight. To fight against the trend of opening earlier and earlier, stores’ websites are starting deals earlier and earlier. If you’re new to my blog, I wear A LOT of Express. They’ve released their 50% off entire store discount online days before Black Friday for a few years now. They’re the only store where I shop early online. After I have that taken care of, then I can focus on getting screaming deals everywhere else. I’m not looking for 10% off here, people. It better be at least 40% or I’m not interested. This is a holiday where deals are king and everything else is just insulting. Although I had to work this morning, I headed out afterward in search of a new winter coat, a black watch and hopefully a few surprises. Happy shopping!

Day 59: Gobble Gobble

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Let’s be honest, today is all about food (besides being thankful, of course). Therefore, I had to grab some jeans that are a little roomy to prepare for my grand feast later. This Tobi sweater is one of my absolute favorites because it’s so comfortable, warm and I love the pattern. I did a little mixing with the knitted chicken-wire pattern on the sweater and this white lace peplum shirt. It works because both patterns are subtle and in neutral colors, plus there is a mini chicken-wire pattern on the lace! The whole look is festive and fall to me. Not to mention, a little forgiving for pie time. Today I’m thankful for all of my amazing and supportive friends and family, all of this year’s blessings and my never-ending love of fashion.

Day 58: Queen Bee

After I got dressed today, I stepped in front of the mirror and had one thought: I look like Blair Waldorf. As an avid “Gossip Girl” fan, I was delighted. Television shows can be amazing fashion inspiration. Their costume designers often start trends without you even realizing it. For example, headbands and chic schoolgirl clothes were huge when “Gossip Girl” was in its prime. Everyone wanted to be Blair or Serena, so they dressed like them instead. I’d say the “now” fashion-inspiring show is “Pretty Little Liars.” Their costume designer, Mandi Line, takes risks and has so much fun with each character’s personality in each look. Sometimes what they wear is a little interesting, but you don’t get big rewards without big risks. My two favorite closets are Aria and Hanna’s. Aria is my edgy side and Hanna is my girly/trendy side. I’ve definitely bought something because it reminded me of something either one of them would wear or did wear. Dressed in this headband, blazer and tights, I think Blair Waldorf would definitely invite me to eat lunch with her crew on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, don’t you?

Day 57: Shaken, not stirred

Some like it in a martini, I’d rather have it as the color of my pants. I confessed that I was lusting after olive pants on Day 5 and today I decided they’d make their debut. Olive is a super hot color this season. I especially love it with black (of course) and gold accents. I think the black keeps it tough, but the gold makes it a little more glamorous. I knew this black sweater with gold grommets would be the perfect topper for these pants. I really needed a new black sweater at the end of last season and I saw this beauty at Michael Kors–on sale! The grommets elevate a simple look and make it into something rough, yet chic. Michael Kors rarely does something wrong in my eyes. I could probably live amongst his beautiful handbags, watches and resort wear forever. Olive can have an army-type vibe so I played it up a bit with these motorcycle boots. I think I’ve begun to channel my independence into my clothing via these boots, tough hardware and an I-can-do-anything attitude.
