Day 151: When allergies attack

I’m feeling a bit under the weather today, so I made things quick and easy for myself. I chose this comfy grey sweater for obvious reasons: it’s cozy and warm. Even though I’m feeling a little blah, I don’t want to look like it! I paired the sweater with these bright pink pants to bring me out of my slump. Plus, in honor of Friday, I like to make my outfit a bit of a celebration. I slipped on black patent flats to keep the look understated and some fun silver jewelry to add a little interest. I’m obsessed with this statement necklace–it does just what it’s supposed to. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy and I can’t wait to pull out my rainy day gear!

Day 150: Business in front, party in back

Keeping things fresh everyday is proving to be quite the challenge. Sometimes I just stand in front of my closet, mentally trying to figure out what I have and haven’t worn and how to spice things up. I wanted to wear a skirt, so I decided to toughen this one up and play with the silhouette a bit. First, I chose to wear it with tights and motorcycle boots, versus tall boots. I still have a hard time not looking too “Pretty Woman” and I thought these moto boots would freshen up the look anyway. I think of it as fun meets straight and narrow. To lighten up the look and make it a little prettier, I added this lace-topped blouse. It’s pretty long, and I didn’t want to keep it untucked, but there was too much fabric to completely tuck it in–so I went halfway! Fashion is all about doing what you want and the half-tucked look is loved by many. It used to be seen as sloppy, but I think it’s turned into a deliberate decision. The half-tuck just slightly misses the mark on being proper–how many of us can identify with that??

Day 149: You’ve got pale

One of the lovely things about spring is the return of pale and pastel colors. Throughout winter I really embrace warm, dark tones–so by spring I’m ready to completely flip the script. If you’re worried about your lack-of-tan, this pale pink can make even the fairest skin look like porcelain. Maybe it’s the whole want-what-you-don’t-have thing, but I think that look is really pretty. Then, once you’ve soaked up some sun, the pink works to intensify your tan. I paired this feminine blouse with a muted grey pencil skirt. The texture of the skirt brings some life into the outfit and I like how it brings out the similar colors in the decorated collar. The whole look is very dainty to me. I chose heels over flats because I knew this skirt would be more flattering with them. Sometimes I’ll choose flats for comfort, but then when I look at my photos afterward I’m slightly disappointed. These Stuart Weitzman heels always satisfy. I added this oversized blazer as an afterthought–I was worried I’d be cold at work. I ended up really liking the manly addition to this girly outfit.

Day 148: Twisted tradition

I haven’t worn a nice business look in a while, so today I decided to put a twist on the traditional pants suit. Dress pants can be really boring, which is probably why I don’t wear them very much. But, with the right combination they can look really chic and put together. Today I chose these grey pants with a little wider leg. They are more interesting than simple, straight black. Instead of a blazer, I used a fitted black sweater with matching grey rolled sleeves. This sweater is still crisp and clean looking, but it’s not the same old blazer everyone owns. I added this pretty purple top and let the sleeves stick out for a casual and modern vibe. The blouse material and overall crispness of the outfit keeps it from looking sloppy. I added silver accents, including this super pretty link bracelet. Keep your traditional outfits from looking tired by making small, modern changes.

Day 147: Maybe she wheel

The color wheel is like a big social circle. Some colors sit next to each other because they like each other and others sit across from each other so that they can easily communicate. Today, blue and orange are having a big conversation. The color wheel is a great place to look when you want to switch things up. Sometimes I forget that certain colors look good together because I get stuck on other pairings. These navy blue and grey pants work perfectly with this bold orange sweater. I love the pattern of the pants, but the colors are muted enough that the orange doesn’t clash–it merely hosts the party. I’ve worn these pants with these boots before, so I rolled the bottoms of the pants a little to change how they look together. I really love the result. I added a few gold accents to add some shine to the outfit. Pairing colors together can be tricky, but these colors always wheel the right way.
