Day 182: Office space

My laundry basket is overflowing out of control and my closet is half empty, so getting dressed today was quite a challenge. While thumbing through the forgotten and buried items in my closet, I came across this black button-down shirt. It’s super simple and crisp, but somehow I always choose something else instead. Today was its day. I was looking for something no nonsense. I grabbed this shirt and paired it with this light brown skirt. It was inspired by the classic khaki and black combination. This outfit is perfect for the office and didn’t make me think too hard or leave me longing for something that needed to be laundered. I decided to keep with the crisp vibe of the outfit and added smart black flats and gold accents. I chose to wear this gorgeous black and gold dust necklace for a little play in an all-work outfit. You know what they say, all work and no play makes for a boring girl–and you wouldn’t want that.

Day 181: Don’t waist my time

I did a little brunching this morning and this high-waisted jersey skirt was the perfect piece for it. This skirt has been my go-to item for days like this for a long time. Not only is it really comfortable, but it looks really cute. This skirt is effortless and automatically makes your outfit look like it too. I got this skirt at American Apparel years ago and I’m still waiting for it to wear out. It was overcast this morning so I paired this skirt with this white quarter sleeve top and finished the look with sandals. Switch the quarter sleeves for spaghetti straps and I could rock this look all summer.

Day 180: Home Run

Spring Training is over today so my friends and I went to see the Rockies play. The weather is gorgeous–prime tanning day! I skipped the usual jean and opted for these fun bright blue ones. Instead of my winter black lace, I’ve changed to this pretty cream. Brights and light lace are the perfect spring combination!

Day 179: Gold feeling

When you’re running late or have a million things on your mind, there’s no denying a classic blouse and pencil skirt combination. Once you have a basic idea, it’s easy to branch off and get creative from there. I love the fit of  pencil skirts, but sometimes I feel like they make me look too uptight. Adding a peplum is the perfect remedy. The skirt instantly looks fun, flirty and different than the average one. I love the look of black-on-black, but the dots on this blouse make it more interesting. Polka dots will truly never go out of style. Often times I choose my jewelry based on the feeling I get from the outfit. This one gave me a distinct need for gold. I added some light accents to keep with the easiness of the outfit. Nude wedges polish off the look with a bit of spring and contrast!

Day 178: The perfect match

I talk a lot about breaking the mold and using contrasting in my outfits, but there is something to be said about a perfectly matched look. I’m pretty sure we’ve all looked at a top or bottom at the store and thought, “This color would totally match the _____ in my closet!” We naturally look for our lifelong love match, so it only makes sense that other matches in our lives would make us  similarly fulfilled. I can’t deny the many pangs of happiness I had while picking out this outfit; each matching detail made me more delighted by it. I started with this red and white polka dotted dress. Not only is it my UofA representation for the day, but the simple red and white pattern makes it very matchable. When you have too many colors or designs, matching can look like too much. You want the accents to make your main piece look cuter, not overwhelmed. I added this simple white sweater and white sandals to keep it all easy breezy. I knew I wanted to wear this red bangle, and because it has gold on it, I kept with that palette and added other gold and white jewelry. Oh, how sweet this outfit is.
