Day 365: 525,600 minutes

One of my favorite musicals, “Rent,” asks the question “How do you measure, a year in the life?” in the song “Seasons of Love.” For one year, I attempted to measure a year in my life with fashion. After many days of creativity, some lazy days and a few slip-ups, I have officially completed 365 Days of Outfits. I wanted to do this blog because I was bored with my style and unhappy with my day-to-day involvement with fashion. If you want something, you truly have to make it happen for yourself. This blog was as close as I could get to my desires. Today’s outfit is comprised of a few of my favorite things: pink, sparkles, skinny jeans and great shoes. I started with my signature color and worked my way down. I absolutely love this bright pink–no matter the season–and quickly picked it up at J. Crew the other day. I paired it with my favorite skinny jeans for a casual fall look and completed it with an Arizona fall essential: dark brown heels. It won’t be cold for a while, so we have plenty of time to enjoy the spoils of summer. I like these dark brown heels because they’re unique, comfortable and the color allows them to easily transition to our version of fall without looking silly. I added a few hints of sparkle and glam with my jewelry and voila! The end is here, but without an end, there can be no beginning. I have enjoyed this blog way too much to let it go today. I decided to continue posting new, different and creative looks–just not every day. I think many of you appreciated my commitment to my challenge when I posted outfits comprised of yoga pants and a tank top, but I’d like to focus my posts on the best creations I do from here on out. I’d love to hear any feedback about what you think I should do next as well! I hope you’ve enjoyed the last year, I know I have.

Day 364: Good-bye summer

The temperatures are finally starting to drop and I won’t get away with wearing a skirt and tank for long! I decided to get a little more use out of this yellow skirt before I trade the hue in for warmer colors like merlot and forest green. I wore a blazer in the office, but it was so nice outside that I shed it for our walk–and for today’s look. I’ve worn something similar with the blazer before, and I thought I’d give one last taste of summer with this photo instead. I added orange sandals to match with the sprinkle of it in my skirt. This look is very colorful, but also has a light, neutral sweater: the perfect way to say good-bye to summer!

Day 362 & 363: Delicate details

Yesterday was essentially out of Apocalypse Now. There was a torrential downpour and flooding in a lot of the streets around town. I basically wore leggings and rainboots all day and I completely forgot to take a photo. I didn’t exactly look fantastic so I’m not too upset about forgetting. Today I went to a fun dinner and decided to wear this high-low dress. I have technically worn it by itself before, but I just got these sandals and they look so fantastic with it. Plus, being that this is my challenge, I decided different shoes totally dictate a different outfit. In fact, sometimes your shoes are the biggest and brightest part of a look! I got these beautiful Steve Madden sandals on sale for a mere $9–such a steal! Only two days until a new beginning!

Day 361: Before you go-go

Today was a kind of throw-on-and-get-out kind of day. I haven’t worn these great red capris in a while. I usually pair them with something black, but I thought I’d make them more summer friendly instead. I added a cream lace top and brown sandals for a lighter, easy look. The whole thing is very carefree, but still put together and nice looking. I added a little bit of rose gold and gold accents to contrast and make the look more interesting. I think this kind of outfit is perfect for when you’re in a rush, but still want to look crisp and bold.

Day 360: Seeing hearts

I cannot believe in 5 days I’ve officially done this for a year! Time has gone faster than I ever could have expected! Since time is dwindling, I figured this was no time to play it safe. Today I tried a trend many are intimidated to do: pattern mixing. The mixing I’ve done before hasn’t been too drastic, or not enough for me to question what people might think, but I know today’s may be met with some looks–and I’m more than okay with that. Black and white is an obvious favorite combination of mine, and the bold juxtaposition of the colors makes for a startling look when mixed in patterns. I absolutely love how this turned out. I think the stripes with the hearts are so fun. The hearts are also small enough that I think they look cute without looking costume-like or random. I think it looks like I put this together on purpose, rather than the dressed-in-the-dark look that can sometimes happen when pattern mixing. The best guidelines: patterns with similar colors that have the same amount of bold or loudness. Don’t like one take over the other!
