That’s a stretch

So, you go shopping and buy some beautiful new shoes. They’re a little tight, but you look in the mirror and see how perfectly they look on you and ALL of the outfits you could wear them with. The shoe salesman promises you that, of course, they’ll stretch. An amateur would wear their new pair out and about over and over until they get worn in. As a seasoned veteran, I know this is the absolute worst idea in the world. For example, I bought these beautiful new booties to wear on my trip this weekend. How will I make sure they are nice and comfortable by Friday? Well, dear reader, I will tell you. One of the perks of sitting down for almost the entire eight hours you’re at work? Stretching your shoes. Your feet aren’t subjected to dancing, walking long distances or standing for hours. Instead, they get to sit comfortably under your desk. I’m not going to lie, your toes might still get a little tingly, but, hidden safely under your desk, you can give your feet a little break. Do that outside of the bar and get ready to be judged–or at the very least, very dirty feet. While you’re not wearing your shoes, stuff socks in them to keep their shape and continue a little extra stretching. I paired my new beauties with tights, a black and white striped dress and this comfortable sweater. The dress looks chic while the sweater warms my look (and me) up! I’ll be sure to get a photo of these booties with my Friday night look too!

Don’t block me out

Wow, I’ve really been slacking! In my defense, I was sick for a week, but I digress. Today’s outfit is very modern office. I looked in my closet for a dress and I saw this lovely color-blocked one that I haven’t worn in ages. It’s very flattering and comfortable–which isn’t easy for your average office dress. I started dressing a lot less traditionally professional recently. When I first started my job, I was all slacks, pencil skirts and blazers. Not only did that get a little boring, it isn’t very realistic in the offices most of us work in now. Very few of my friends have to dress like that every day. I didn’t want to get sucked back into the “Office Space” style dressing by pulling out this dress, so I chose a few items to keep it fresh. First, this blazer. It’s eye-catching, modern and super cute. It is still professional, but it doesn’t look too stuffy. Plus, it makes this dress look more interesting instead of making it look more straight-laced. I added some tights to keep me warm and patent heels to end it all on a polished note. I added some light black and gold jewelry items to bring my usual hint of glam.

Winter is coming

It’s finally getting chilly! In fact, it’s downright cold when I get to work in the mornings. One of the best things about cold weather are, of course, the outfits. There is just so much more you can do with winter clothes than summer clothes. Layering is a real game changer. For today’s outfit, I wanted to be comfortable and warm, but still chic looking. Combine a chunky sweater (with a high, low hem if you really want to up the ante), skinny jeans and smart riding boots and you have a look that does all the work for you. This sweater is really cool. It has lots of intricate braiding and a holed pattern. I’ll showcase it on a day I don’t have to wear an undershirt with it. I decided to go with black skinny jeans and black boots to make the red in the sweater really pop, plus it makes the look really put together. I love all-black, which I know can be boring, so inserting a really interesting piece like this sweater helps to break up the monotony.

Winter darling

Yesterday I was happily surprised at how cool it was outside, and I was completely unprepared outfit-wise. I vowed to not make the same mistake today. The result: a beautiful sweater dress and legging combo fit for any winter darling. I bought this gorgeous brown and gold sweater at Mango while I was on my New York adventure. I fell in love with it instantly–plus it was on sale! It’s really warm, but not too much for our “freezing” Arizona weather. I added black leggings with a vegan leather stripe (it’s hard to tell in the photo) for a comfortable, but put together look. I could literally wear this every day of my life and be happy. SO comfy. I love these leggings because they stay up and have keptĀ  their black color really nicely. I added my black motorcycle boots for a relaxed look, but tall black leather boots would make it look a little more polished. I’ll definitely be doing that another day this season. When it’s cold and I’m wearing long sleeves, I like to keep my jewelry pretty simple. I added my “A” necklace and my new Michael Kors twisting rings–which I’m obsessed with for multiple reasons, one of which is that I got it during a rare Nordstrom sale. I am so glad winter is finally starting to hit Arizona, I’ve been staring longingly at my cold weather clothes for too long!

Music to my ears

The word “sale.” It is both the best and worst word a shopaholic, like myself, can hear. It’s the best because it means you can get your favorite brand for less money. It’s the worst because you’ve already spent all your money. I swear I always stumble upon the best items when it’s not payday Friday, or I just paid my rent. But when I have oodles of cash? I hate everything. Well, this weekend my luck turned around and I not only found a fabulous sale at one of my favorite stores, but I had a gift card! DING! DING! Daily Double! I went into an Express to waste time before meeting my parents for dinner and I saw they were offering 40 percent off their sweaters. It’s about to get “cold” and I work in an ice box, I obviously need new sweaters! However, I didn’t have my gift card. I went back on what I like to refer as my “Shopping Sunday” and I got the adorable pink sweater below and another rougher red and black number that I’m dying to wear with leggings. After the sale and the gift card, I owed a nice $4.00–music to my ears. I was drawn to this sweater because I needed a bubblegum colored one to replace an old one with holes in it. This one is super chic, with the high-low effect, and brings a little fun with the zippers on each side. The neckline is interesting and not stuffy. The whole thing is very carefree–exactly what this stressed out girl needs in her life! Did any of you hit up Express’ sale?
