Day 177: Pop the cork

Today is a big day: I’m breaking out my black chunky cork heels. I love cork detailing in shoes, but they are usually only appropriate in spring and summer. I know sunnier times have arrived when I think it’s time to ditch my black patent, closed-toed heels in favor of these beauties. I love the chunky heel because it gives you the benefits of both wedges and heels. They were a big trend last year and I’m hoping it continues again this season. I opted for capri pants and a peplum tank to get a little cooler and I added this great striped jacket for a little flavor. Black and white stripes are seasonless and I plan to wear this jacket until it’s on its last stitch. With cork heels also comes white accents. Although I rebel a little on the white pants rule, I generally leave white accessories for spring and summer. Out of season it can look a little tacky, but right now is the perfect time to wear this necklace. I love everything about the detailing and design of it. I only buy simple items, like this periwinkle tank, when I know I’ll be able to dress it up with a fantastic statement necklace. I was a little reluctant at first, but I’m ready to fully embrace warmer weather!

Day 176: Embrace the pastel

My favorite color of spring is pastel pink. Pastels are by no means revolutionary, but the way you style them can be. I also look for really unique items to reinvigorate reoccurring spring colors. I found this adorable pastel pink dress at Mango when I was in Italy. I loved everything about it: strapless, tiered and a built-in contrast belt. Our weather is gorgeous right now and no straps make for perfect tanning opportunities while you’re out lunching or walking around shops. The ribbon-turned-belt breaks up the monotony of a solid color and simultaneously cinches your waist for a flattering look. The bottom of the dress is the reinvigorated part. I love the tiered design and the way it dresses up the piece. I added a pastel blue necklace to keep things interesting and add a little floral accent to the outfit. I chose flats over wedges to make the look more cutsie and less dressy. Wedges would be perfect for a nice lunch. When shopping for pastels, keep your eye out for modern and feminine pieces to avoid the dreaded Easter egg look.

Day 175: Lacy days

It’s continuing to get warmer outside, which means bare legs and sandals can finally return! After a long day of cowboy boots on Saturday, my feet are nowhere near ready to go back to closed-toed shoes. I absolutely had to wear sandals today! Working from the bottom up, I chose a pretty periwinkle pencil skirt to compliment my sandals. The skirt is casual enough to look good without heels, but confident enough to compete with this lace top. The whole look ends up being the kind of springtime cool that’s perfect for work or a nice lunch. As I transition from winter to spring, it really helps to highlight bright colors with my winter staples. I’ve done a similar look to this one before, but this time my bare legs and sandals completely transform the outfit. Take time to enjoy the sunshine before it really heats up.

Day 174: Work it out

This weekend was packed with wedding activities. I’ve basically been primped and dressed up for days so I completely took advantage of my first free day to dress down. The highlights of today were errands and a quick stop at the salon. I also wanted to pressure myself to go to the gym later so I used a little trick that I do to get myself to go. I’ll put on gym clothes in the beginning of the day so that when I actually have time to go I’m already dressed and prepared. It’s much harder to have an excuse that way! Today’s no nonsense outfit consists of workout leggings and a comfy tank top. Some days clothes need to be more about convenience and less about creativity.

Day 173: Gone country

Today was my first wedding of the season. I was a bridesmaid and the theme of the wedding was country/western. I loved our flowered dresses (perfect for spring) and the cowboy boots were a great addition to the theme. Our dresses had pretty lace and tulle to add some volume to the bottom. I loved the bright citrus colors in the dress because they made us all look really tan. I was having so much fun celebrating and dancing that I almost forgot to take a picture today, but luckily my dad took this picture during the ceremony. This was my friend Jamie’s day and this picture shows just how happy I am for her.
