Music to my ears

The word “sale.” It is both the best and worst word a shopaholic, like myself, can hear. It’s the best because it means you can get your favorite brand for less money. It’s the worst because you’ve already spent all your money. I swear I always stumble upon the best items when it’s not payday Friday, or I just paid my rent. But when I have oodles of cash? I hate everything. Well, this weekend my luck turned around and I not only found a fabulous sale at one of my favorite stores, but I had a gift card! DING! DING! Daily Double! I went into an Express to waste time before meeting my parents for dinner and I saw they were offering 40 percent off their sweaters. It’s about to get “cold” and I work in an ice box, I obviously need new sweaters! However, I didn’t have my gift card. I went back on what I like to refer as my “Shopping Sunday” and I got the adorable pink sweater below and another rougher red and black number that I’m dying to wear with leggings. After the sale and the gift card, I owed a nice $4.00–music to my ears. I was drawn to this sweater because I needed a bubblegum colored one to replace an old one with holes in it. This one is super chic, with the high-low effect, and brings a little fun with the zippers on each side. The neckline is interesting and not stuffy. The whole thing is very carefree–exactly what this stressed out girl needs in her life! Did any of you hit up Express’ sale?

Girl’s Day Out

I had a lovely Sunday lunch with a group of girlfriends and I thought this black and white printed dress was the perfect thing to wear. It’s fun and flirty, but not too dressy. I’ve worn it for a date before, and I thought it could work well for a girls’ day (or night) too. This is the kind of dress that can go day or night–which I love. I’m all about getting as much milage out of my clothes as possible. Whenever I go shopping, I try to look for items that can be dressed up or down, depending on what jewelry or shoes I wear. Today I wore simple sandals and a necklace to keep the outfit from looking like too much. I love a lazy Sunday, but a Girl’s Day Out every once in while doesn’t hurt either!

Back in the New York groove

If there’s one place I absolutely adore in all of America, it’s New York. I love everything about it–even the cold weather. I recently went on a short trip there and I had the best time. I got the best of both worlds too: the big city and Long Island. I have a lot of family on Long Island and it is near and dear to my heart. They also have the best bagels and Italian desserts I’ve ever tasted. (Also near and dear to my heart). During the trip, I got to finally wear real fall clothes and feel real fall weather! On my trip into the city with my aunt and cousins, I needed a casual, but trendy outfit to go day to night. I would be meeting a friend and going out later and I needed this outfit to go the extra mile. I settled on my favorite holey olive sweater, black jeggings and my motorcycle boots. I added my black and gold dust necklace to add a little glam to the otherwise tough outfit. I LOVE this outfit. I believe I already wore it on my official 365 Days of Outfits, but I just loved the Times Square background too much to care!

My other photograph-w0rthy New York outfit came on Sunday when we went to Pellegrini Winery and to the farmer’s markets and such on the east side of Long Island. Everything out there was gorgeous–and delicious. We had fresh roasted corn, honey crisp apples and lots of jam samples. Not to mention the tasty wine! They really know how to do it all over there. The high of that day was around 52 degrees and I was thrilled. I brought out my new jacket from Nordstrom Rack and a cozy sweater, along with my new polka dot leggings. I’m really happy with how the whole look turned out. It was nice to be in a sweater, and for once, not be sweating! It was actually a little chilly even, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I love how the mint contrasts with the black and the way the pattern of the jacket compliments the polka dot leggings. I’ll definitely be wearing this again when our Arizona weather turns cooler! New York, I’ll be seeing you.

Special Delivery: FranLove!

IMG_1741

Last night I got a very special delivery: FranLove! If you’re no stranger to this blog, you know I am a big fan of Francesca’s. I wear a piece of their jewelry or an item of clothing from their store multiple times a week. Well after continually tweeting Francesca’s about the looks I put together with their items, they decided to give me a little treat! When I opened the box, I was greeted by a new ivory chained tote. The bag looks great on your shoulder and has lots of room for all of your goodies. Ivory isn’t always your first thought when thinking of fall colors, but it is definitely the white of the season. I decided to pair the bag with a casual outfit today: jeans, a silk button-down shirt and nude wedges. In my opinion, you can wear all kinds of browns together when it comes to shoes and bags. As long as they are both a brown hue, I think the contrast looks great and is welcome at any time–especially in the summer and fall. Lucky for me, Arizona permits the use of wedges into October. Until my toes start getting cold, I will proudly wear open-toed shoes. Those in warm climates get a fashion faux pas pass on that one because the weather permits it. I absolutely love my new tote and will be rocking it through November! Thanks Francesca’s for showing me some love!

Makes my heart belt

I’ve had this dress for a while, and usually when I try to change it up I add a sweater, blazer or some other type of outerwear. This morning I thought of this outfit extremely quickly–which is how I sometimes think of my best creations. I saw this dress, but I couldn’t find the sash/black tie that came with it to go around the waist. I thought about just wearing it without anything, but then I thought of this thick, decorated belt. I was worried it wouldn’t lay right, or would be too much, but once I slid the clasp down, I instantly loved it. The belt reinvigorates the dress and makes it l0ok completely different than I’ve ever worn it before. The studded buttons work perfectly with the silver detailing on the belt, and I think it makes it look even more office-wear without being boring. I decided to add my tie-up black heels to bottom off the look and a light amount of simple silver accents to complete the whole thing. Belts are a create way to bring new life to an old dress or outfit. Sweater dress season is upon us, and based on today’s look, I’m going to need more of both!
