Working for the weekend

I wanted to feature this outfit because I think it is the perfect balance of work and play for the office. The bright orange sweater contrasted with the navy blue skirt keep things interesting and light–it doesn’t make you feel stuffy and stuck in a cubicle. Sometimes getting dressed is the best part of my day, so I always try to make it count. Feeling good when you leave the house is the key to feeling good all day long. I added these awesome, strappy brown heels because our weather permits it. I might as well take advantage of our perks! All of you bundled up in the East and Midwest can get your revenge when we’re melting in 100 degree temperatures. I not only got these heels on sale, but I also love how different they are. Sometimes wearing shoes that go up to your ankle can cut your leg off, and flatter your figure less. I think the pattern of the heels work against that and end up elongating my leg in a really nice way. I topped everything off with a long grey sweater because my thin blood keeps me from warmth whenever we get into the 60s around here. I love winter layers, it’s so much more fun!

Amazing lace

I absolutely adore this lace top. You can wear it with virtually everything, but it’s not even slightly boring. I realize I’ve used these olive pants on the blog recently, but l just had to post this outfit. I think the olive gives it a different, more interesting look than black pants do. I added riding boots to keep the colored denim looking classy, rather than casual. Little details like the lace sleeves and shoulders give your look a hint of fun and intrigue. I spent a pretty penny on these boots, but they have proved to be completely worth it. Black boots are a staple, and when you splurge a little on an item like that, you rarely regret it. These boots have a really classic look, so I’ll be able to carry them into the next winter season too!

Acid dream

Acid wash jeans are making a comeback, and I’m here to welcome them with open arms! These jeans are a dream: the color, the fit, everything. I’m not sure I’m the right person for light-colored acid wash, but my eyes lit up when I saw these dark beauties. They are just so fun. When you see an item and immediately are intrigued, you’ve got to get it. Life is too short to wear boring clothes. I especially love these jeans because they are Rag and Bone–found at Nordstrom Rack! I love a good deal, and these were a great find. Now, what to pair with your acid wash? Nothing that’s too competitive. I settled on a graphic tank and a zip-up sweatshirt on Friday because of the Arizona/Oregon game. You could easily wear a solid-colored sweater or a lightly patterned shirt, but try not to get too creative. The jeans have enough of that themselves. Acid wash may have had its highest popularity in the 60’s, but there’s always room to bring back a classic! (Win or lose!)

Get right, get tights

You know I’m ready for winter when I pull out my tights. I forgot I had bought this skirt and thought it would be the perfect item to join my tights in a ceremonious welcome to winter. Lucky for us Arizonans, it is going to be in the low 70’s all week, which means these tights are both stylish and practical. For any of you in warmer climates, you can still join in on the fun, just buy thicker tights (similar to leggings). I got these tights at Macy’s, so they are higher quality and thickness than the cheap ones you can get at H&M or Forever 21. I always get runs in those too. To go with my tights, I added this black and white brocade print skirt from Francesca’s and a simple black V-neck. With a simple outfit like this, I saved the best for last: my shoes. I went with these grey Jeffrey Campbell look-a-likes. A burst of color would be gorgeous with this look, but I settled on something a little more neutral. Dots of silver jewelry around my neck and hands give the whole thing a bit of glam. I love this outfit, it’s the perfect thing for work, drinks afterward or a fun activity on the weekend.
