Day 219: Pushing pastels

I really love how this outfit turned out. When I sleepily pick out my clothes each morning, it can be quite a gamble–especially as I get farther into this challenge. Today I was really feeling these patterned pants. It’s supposed to be a beautiful 79 degrees and I wanted to take advantage of it! I have been pretty matchy-matchy with these pants so I decided to get a little creative. Pink and blue go great together, and the pattern of the pants are neutral enough that the contrast works. By choosing a light color (especially pastels right now) instead of white or cream, you can give a whole new life to your outfits. White would have looked good, but the light pink is so much more intriguing. Plus, the light blue flowers on the collar of the shirt are a fun tie-in to the look. I dare you to trade in your whites in favor of this season’s best light colors!

Day 217: I’ve got the blues

I love mixing light and dark hues of the same color. The result is a contrasted, cohesive look. For today’s outfit I chose this dark blue embellished top. Dark blue can be a good challenge because it causes you to be creative–wearing it with jeans is a total cop-out. I usually try to think a little harder to make it stand out so that it doesn’t get lost in additional dark colors. I decided to pair it with these light blue/grey corduroy pants. The two colors work together really nicely and don’t compete with each other.  I also really like the mixture of corduroy and pleated textures. The whole thing is really interesting and a not-your-average outfit. I wore simple nude sandals to end the look. I probably would have worn wedges, but my feet are sore from all the moving this weekend. How to do this with your wardrobe: Choose one item that’s a dark hue and one that’s a significantly lighter hue of one color, if you’re feeling adventurous, use patterns too!
