Day 58: Queen Bee

After I got dressed today, I stepped in front of the mirror and had one thought: I look like Blair Waldorf. As an avid “Gossip Girl” fan, I was delighted. Television shows can be amazing fashion inspiration. Their costume designers often start trends without you even realizing it. For example, headbands and chic schoolgirl clothes were huge when “Gossip Girl” was in its prime. Everyone wanted to be Blair or Serena, so they dressed like them instead. I’d say the “now” fashion-inspiring show is “Pretty Little Liars.” Their costume designer, Mandi Line, takes risks and has so much fun with each character’s personality in each look. Sometimes what they wear is a little interesting, but you don’t get big rewards without big risks. My two favorite closets are Aria and Hanna’s. Aria is my edgy side and Hanna is my girly/trendy side. I’ve definitely bought something because it reminded me of something either one of them would wear or did wear. Dressed in this headband, blazer and tights, I think Blair Waldorf would definitely invite me to eat lunch with her crew on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, don’t you?

Day 36: Queen of hearts

Sick of the same old cable-knit sweaters? I am too. Lately I’ve been wanting something more graphic–sweater wise that is. Graphic sweaters are all over right now. I actually got this H&M sweater a couple of years ago, but what goes around trends around. I love that this sweater looks like I sprinkled big globs of heart-shaped confetti all over it. Some sweaters with images can look cheap or like a toddler should be wearing them, so I advise you choose items that are crisp and of decent quality. If the quality is too low, sweaters will get bally and the graphics will get worn. Unfortunately, it’s rarely in the cool vintage way that expensive types do. There’s also something about winter that awakens my love for headbands. Maybe it’s because adding one more thing on your body makes you that much hotter in the summer, but I quite enjoy the occasional headband during the cold months. A big winter headband trend is wearing thick, knit headbands around your head, versus on top. While I think these are super cute and would love to wear them–I need to wait at least until January or I’d probably have sweat dripping down my face within 30 minutes. For those of us in warmer climates, opting for traditional headbands is much more realistic. To spice it up, get thin bands with embellishments or sparkles.

My earrings are so cute, but so small, that I had to give you a close-up!
